Gem and jewelry makes any women beautiful and gem cutter makes gems beautiful.
A lapidary is an artist who cuts, polishes, or carves stones or gemstones.
Lapidary is a hobby that is enjoyed by people of all ages and position. Gem cutting can be done with a minimum equipment, or an complicated set up with enough bells and whistles to impress your most fussy neighbors. The basics, enough to do good quality work, are easy to learn. On the other hand, you will never be able to learn everything, or run out of new challenges.
Gem cutting process involves lapidary techniques that convert plain rough stone into eye-catching gemstone. These techniques are: cabbing, faceting and carving.
Cutting cabochons (cabbing) is the most common form of gem cutting. It only takes a little practice to become skillful and is something almost everyone can learn to do well.
Faceting is another form of lapidary art.
The aim of faceting is to reveal the brilliance and radiance of a gem. Faceting is the process of placing facets on a gemstone so it will get the best light refraction, that is when light ray enters from one of the facet of the stone it is reflected back for the bottom facet. The shape and number of the facets give the stone its style of cut.
The goal of a gem cutter, who creates the facet arrangement on a gemstone, is to create the most brilliance and best appearance possible for the gem in hand.

Gemstone carving by its very nature, is time-consuming, much like learning to play a musical instrument, but the end result can be achieved in a matter of days rather than years.  As with every other craft, it takes time and practice to learn to carve gemstones.
